David Merner statement on Conservative Party leadership contest
Merner encourages MacKay supporters to join Green Party
Aug 26, Montreal—Today, Green Party leadership contender David Merner made the following statement:
“I’d like to congratulate Erin O’Toole on becoming the new leader of the Conservative Party.
I’d also like to extend an offer to all Red Tories who voted for Peter MacKay to join the Green Party of Canada. It's now clear that most Conservative Party members have no interest in progressive social policies.
Many Progressive Conservatives joined the Green Party in 2005-06 after Stephen Harper became leader and removed “Progressive” from the Party name.
Like Progressive Conservatives, Greens believe in socially progressive policy that is also fiscally sustainable.
Join us! Help us to elect a new leader. Together, let's transform Canada into the sustainable society Canadians need and want.”
